Hebe - Hebe 'Midsummer Beauty' Hebe - Hebe 'Midsummer Beauty'© Dr Chris Gibson/English Nature ![]() This round, open, evergreen shrub has glossy, narrow leaves with reddish brown undersides. The leaves are arranged in a square shape of alternating opposite pairs, typical of hebes. The spikes of small lobed flowers, fading from lilac to white, arch attractively on long stems and attract bees. Hebes are tolerant of most soils, including chalk, and they are also suitable for seaside gardens. 'Midsummer Beauty' is moderately hardy. It can be pruned back after flowering to keep it compact, or allowed to grow into a large bush. Like most varieties of Hebe, this one provides nectar and is visited by honey bees and bumble bees.
