Sea-holly - Eryngium amethystinum Sea-holly - Eryngium amethystinum© Robin Chittenden www.harlequinpictures.co.uk ![]() This garden sea-holly is a fully hardy, rosette-forming plant, related to the native sea holly Eryngium maritimum. The much-branched stems bear heads of small, thistle-like flowers that are smoky blue and surrounded by darker blue, spiky bracts. The oval leaves are deeply divided, spiny and mid-green in colour. These spiky perennial plants add structure to a flower border and attract bees and butterflies.
