This lovely, evergreen plant, also known as lamb's tongue, originates from Iran. It has large, narrow, oval leaves with a woolly grey coating. The small mauve flowers arise on the long stalks which grow upwards from the clump. There are varieties with whiter leaves while 'Silver Carpet' is non-flowering,

This is an excellent plant for groundcover or for a border in full sun in well-drained soil and is much visited by bumble bees.
