The Californian poppy has feathery, bluish-green leaves. It should be planted in full sun, as the flowers require direct sunshine to open. They remain open well into the evening on sunny days. This is an easy plant to grow as it can be sown direct into the ground and will thrive in poor soil, as well as container planters. Many varieties of Californian poppy provides both nectar and pollen for bees and hoverflies. Various species of beetle are also attracted to the colourful flowers.
