This caryopteris is an excellent rounded shrub for the front of a border. It is a dense compact plant with clusters of intensely blue, tubular flowers with prominent stamens. The lance-shaped, grey-green leaves are aromatic. The stems are a reddish colour. This plant prefers chalky soils.

Hoverflies, bees and the silver Y moth are among the insects which this species attracts.
