A deservedly popular garden plant, this aubretia is compact with trailing stems and it is often seen tumbling over stone walls in spring. The oval, toothed green leaves often have creamy variegation around the edges. The clusters of flat four-petalled flowers are a striking deep blue-purple colour and provide valuable food for early bees.
