Smooth cat's ear has short, glossy, elliptical, red-tinged leaves in a basal rosette. It is a perennial of open, dry grasslands, mostly on sandy soils.The botanical name stems from Greek words for pig choiros and under hypo suggesting that pigs ate the roots. Like other members of the huge daisy family, this species is atttractive to bees and other beneficial insects. Animals
