Orpine - Sedum telephium Orpine - Sedum telephium© Dr Chris Gibson/English Nature ![]() Everything about this plant makes it stand out, from its tall and robust reddish stems to its dense, plate-like heads of red-purple, hermaphrodite flowers. Orpine has the typical waxy, toothed, oval leaves of sedums. These leaves are arranged alternately up the length of the stem. Though widely naturalised, orpine is a probable native plant of open woods, hedgebanks and limestone rocks. It makes a striking addition to a border or a woodland edge planting. Animals
