Biting stonecrop - Sedum acre Biting stonecrop - Sedum acre© Dr Chris Gibson/English Nature ![]() Biting stonecrop is a low-growing plant with succulent yellow-green and egg-shaped leaves. It has branched clusters of bright yellow flowers, which have long protruding stamens. It is so-named from the biting hot taste to the leaves. This is a spreading plant that thrives on virtually soil-less conditions, for example on tracks, walls, rocks and dunes. In a garden, it is extremely useful on retaining walls and in rockeries. Most Sedum species including this one are attractive to bees for pollen and nectar. Animals
