Bird's-eye primrose - Primula farinosa Bird's-eye primrose - Primula farinosa© Dr Chris Gibson/English Nature ![]() The small and star-like candy pink flowers of the bird's-eye primrose have a distinct yellow eye. The flowers are borne at the top of a single slender stem produced from the centre of the rosette of pale green, spoon-shaped leaves. The underside of the leaves and the stems have a mealy white surface. This short-lived perennial is a worthy addition to any damp flower border and bog garden. Plants are available from a number of wildflower specialist nurseries. As a native, it is confined to the limestone of Northern England, where it occurs in springs and flushes on natural banks. This plant may provide some nectar for bees but the main attraction of this species is its striking flowers. Animals
