This froghopper is very conspicuous, its black body with red markings acting as a warning to predators that it is distasteful.

The larvae develop inside solidified 'cuckoo-spit' underground on plant roots, while adults are usually seen on grass and other low vegetation.

Food

Plant-feeder: adults on many types of vegetation, including grasses, nettles, docks etc; larvae on plant roots in the soil.
