The shell can be up to 20mm in diameter, with a conical spire and usually with a variable number (maximum five) of distinctive dark spiral bands, although some individuals may be plain yellow or pink. A thick brown lip to the shell usually distinguishes it from the white-lipped banded snail, Cepaea hortensis. The body of the snail is usually dark grey. Banded snails are a favourite food of song thrushes, broken shells being commonly found beside their anvil stones. FoodPlant feeder on a wide range of fresh vegetation.
