Catmint - Nepeta cataria Catmint - Nepeta cataria© Bob Gibbons ![]() The purple-spotted, white flowers of cat-mint grow in terminal spiked clusters. The oval, toothed leaves are softly woolly, grey and aromatic. This is a native or long-established plant of hedgebanks and roadsides, but it also occurs as a garden escape. As the name implies, this plant is especially attractive to cats who can get quite excited by it. Bees are also very appreciative, though no doubt for different reasons, as cats are not noted for their interest in nectar! The leaves can be eaten fresh in a salad or dried to make tea or for use as a herb. Animals
