Black-eyed Susan - Rudbeckia hirta Black-eyed Susan - Rudbeckia hirta© Dr Chris Gibson/English Nature ![]() Black-eyed Susan is a fast-growing plant with large daisy-like flowers that have narrow bright yellow petals and a prominent conical, deep orange-brown centre. It has lance-shaped leaves on long, strong green stems. A short-lived perennial, it is usually grown as an annual. This cottage garden plant is tolerant of most soils and it brightens up borders in sun or part shade in the late summer and early autumn. Like other members of the Rudbeckia family it offers nectar for bees. Animals
